Ciara Miller is speaking out after receiving criticism for her response to the recent Love Island USA: Aftersun drama.
“You guys need to fucking relax,” Ciara, 30, wrote via Threads on Saturday, June 27. “We film for 6 hours. Perspectives get left on the cutting room floor. I could psychoanalyze all of LI for hours and write a dissertation on black people/colorism on reality TV.”
She continued, “Don’t talk to me about how I ‘fail’ to see any person of color’s perspective or how I need more ‘empathy.’ I’ve quite literally lived it.”
In the comments section, users replied with mixed opinions to Ciara’s statement.
Love Island USA’s Jeremiah Addresses Cierra’s Racism Scandal
“It’s always ‘edit, edit, edit’ when it comes to LI and their weird ass ways. Somehow, everything that defends KC weirdo behavior gets the cut, but empathizing and showing grace to Aniya never makes it. Yikes, 😬 would hate to be employed by that franchise,” one user wrote.
Another, however, replied, “It’s always edit edit edit for every production, LI is just maximized 10x with the level of turnaround. Just stop talking about things you have no experience to cast judgment on. It’s self-serving and I hope the likes are worth it if she reads what you said (which is likely).”
A third added, “Everyone needs to reread the 2nd & 3rd sentences. This is still a produced show at the end of the day and production chooses what gets shown at the end of those 6 hour shoots!”
Amid drama with Summer House’s Amanda Batula and West Wilson, Ciara was named the new Aftersun host in May. During Aftersun, Miller and cohost Tefi Pessoa discuss the group’s love lives and drama with dumped contestants joining the episode to share the behind-the-scenes details.
Love Island USA’s Cierra Breaks Silence on Surprise Exit Amid Racism Scandal
Ciara’s post came days after Peacock confirmed contestant Alannah Keyser’s exit from the show amid a racism scandal. Alannah broke her silence on the situation in a Sunday, June 28, TikTok.
“Hi everyone, I’m coming on here to address some things that have been circulated online. I do want to begin by addressing the video of me singing along to a Roddy Ricch song that contains a racial slur. I’m sorry to whoever has seen that video and has been offended by it. That was never my intention,” Alannah said. “The video is from six years ago and that word is just not in my vocabulary anymore.”
She continued, “I’d also like to address the screenshots that have been going around online that have been falsified. What has been shared does not reflect the truth and it has never been in my character to discriminate against anybody’s skin color. I do want to say directly that I do not support racism or discrimination of any kind and I never have.”
Alannah explained that the situation “really broke [her] heart” and alleged that she “couldn’t do anything about it” when she learned the scandal had made headlines.
Cierra’s Team Addressed Racist Post Before Her ‘Love Island USA’ Exit
“But this has definitely been a learning lesson for me. And it sucks that I didn’t get a chance to really show my personality and who I am,” she concluded.
The clip then stopped, with Alannah writing, “The video cut but it’s always been in my nature to spread positivity and help others & I will continue to do so.”
She captioned the post, “Remember that reality tv is HEAVILY edited & my chats/kisses with the other boys were unfortunately not aired.”
