Derek Hough Pokes Fun at Tyler Cameron Name Flub After ‘DWTS’ Premiere

Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough blames his “dad brain” for calling Tyler Cameron the wrong name.

Hough, 41, awkwardly referred to the Bachelorette alum as “Dylan” during the Tuesday, September 15, season 35 premiere episode, seemingly confusing him for Dylan Efron, who competed on the show last year.

In a TikTok video on Wednesday, September 16, Hough poked fun at his faux pas, filming himself calling his costars the wrong name backstage at night two of the DWTS season 35 premiere.

In the clip, Mark Ballas became “George,” fellow judge Bruno Tonioli became “Jeffrey” and Jan Ravnik became “Fred.” Hough even jokingly called last year’s winner, Robert Irwin, by his sister Bindi Irwin’s name.

“Dad Brian, I mean Brain🤣,” Hough captioned his humorous video.

Over on Instagram, Cameron, 33, also had some fun at Hough’s expense, teaming up with Efron, 34, for a video of his own.

The reality stars lip-synched along to an audio clip, mouthing, “We are not the same person.”

“All I see is 2 DYLANS,” Hough quipped in the comments section.

Hough mistakenly called Cameron “Dylan” while giving him feedback during Tuesday’s live broadcast.

“Dylan, you have this, like, Patrick Swayze aura about you,” the judge said after Cameron and pro partner Sharna Burgess performed a tango to Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” He added, “You’re cool, masculine, just effortless. It really is amazing, truly.”

Jokes aside, Hough and his fellow judges, Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, were impressed by Cameron’s ballroom debut. The trio scored him 17 out of 30 for the routine.

“For me, the frame … we need to expand that,” Hough shared with Cameron. “I know you’re a big guy, but you can handle that [and] she can handle that, absolutely. I think mirroring your presence with the technique, the frame, the posture, you’re gonna do fantastic.”

“Tyler, what’s going on here? I have to say I’m very pleasantly surprised,” Tonioli, 70, told Cameron. “I mean, look at him, he looks like a tank. … In fact, you can move, man. You have natural musicality, a few hiccups here and there, but I’m telling you, my love, you have so much potential. Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do.”

“That was amazing. I thought you were really solid, you have a commanding performance, [but Sharna’s] foot came off the ground, so I’m going to, you know, lifts are still a thing,” Inaba, 58, gushed, though she told him she’d be deducting a point. “Lifts are still a thing, but what I want to say [is] just in the beginning, you didn’t finish your moves. But once you get past that, the way you carried yourself, you have commanding performance; lean into it. Well done.”

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
