Marc Anthony Breaks Silence on Beckham Family Drama: ‘Hardly the Truth’

Marc Anthony is speaking out for the first time after finding himself pulled into the Beckham family feud.

“I have nothing to say about what’s happening with the family,” the singer, 57, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, February 9. “They’re a wonderful, wonderful family. I’ve known them since before the kids were born. I’m godfather to Cruz. I’m really close to the family.”

Anthony added, “But I have nothing to say about what happened there. It’s extremely unfortunate how it’s playing out — but [how it’s playing out] is hardly the truth.”

The Grammy winner was mentioned in Brooklyn Beckham’s explosive statement speaking out against his family last month. Anthony performed at Brooklyn’s April 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham.

What Really Happened Between Victoria and Nicola at the Beckham Wedding?

In a January 21 statement shared via Instagram Stories, Brooklyn, 26, accused his mother, Victoria Beckham, of dancing inappropriately with him on his wedding day.

“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” Brooklyn wrote in part. “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”

During an appearance on the U.K.’s This Morning program later in January, wedding DJ Fat Tony shed more light on Anthony’s performance at the nuptials and the alleged moment between Victoria, 51, and Brooklyn.

“There was no slut-dropping, there was no black PVC catsuit, there was no Spice Girl action,” Tony said. “What it was [and] why I said it was inappropriate, as well, was because … it was the timing.”

He continued, “Marc Anthony was performing onstage. He then called Brooklyn onto the stage [who] went onto the stage where everyone’s expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance, then Marc Anthony asks ‘the most beautifulest woman in the room’ to come to the stage and then he says, ‘Victoria.’”

Tony said that Brooklyn appeared “devastated,” while Nicola, 31, left the venue “crying her eyes out.”

“Brooklyn’s stuck there onstage, and then they do this dance,” Tony claimed. “Marc Anthony’s, like, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips,’ and it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.”

In his statement, Brooklyn detailed his rift with his family, including parents Victoria and David, 50, and said that he did not want to reconcile. (Victoria and David also share Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14.)

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” Brooklyn wrote, claiming that his parents have “controlled narratives in the press” about the family his “entire life.”

“Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, l’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders,” he alleged.

Neither David nor Victoria has publicly addressed Brooklyn’s claims. Us Weekly reached out to representatives for the couple at the time.
