Sanya Richards-Ross, Tori Spelling and more celebrities have caused controversy for faking pregnancies on April Fools’ Day over the years.
Spelling posted a 2021 Instagram upload of herself cradling her stomach, captioned, “No. 6.” (The actress is the mother of Stella, Liam, Hattie, Finn and Beau with ex-husband Dean McDermott.)
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum later told her followers that she had posted the photo in response to the “constant questions” about whether she and McDermott were expanding their family.
“I know that pregnancy is an extreme blessing. And I would never intentionally poke fun at losing a child or not being able to carry one,” she wrote. “I myself have miscarried. … For those of you that are hurt, I hear you. I love you. I welcome your stories and I will try my best to be there to support you. Please accept this as a virtual hug to my entire community.”
Sabrina Carpenter received online backlash from fans in April 2023 after joking that she was pregnant with her first child at a concert in Salt Lake City. “Put your hands up if you live in Salt Lake. How do you get alcohol on Sundays?” the “Nonsense” singer asked the crowd, before adding, “I’m pregnant. Happy April Fools’ Day.” The Disney Channel alum did not comment on the joke following the concert.
In April 2026, Richards-Ross made a fake pregnancy announcement on April Fools’ Day. The Olympian later posted a video on her Instagram Story apologizing for the prank.
