Paris Jackson Clarifies Why She Went Public About Her Perforated Septum

Paris Jackson is clarifying why she decided to go public about having a perforated septum.

Paris, 27, recently shared that she has a hole between her nostrils due to her past drug use. A perforated septum is a hole in the cartilage or bone between the nostrils, per the Cleveland Clinic. It can be caused by autoimmune diseases, drug misuse, infections, injuries, exposure to chemicals and more.

After the popular Instagram account The Shade Room shared a video of Paris talking about her perforated septum on Tuesday, November 11, the daughter of the late Michael Jackson dove into the comments section to elaborate on why she decided to share her health condition.

“To the people wondering why I shared this, it’s not for you ♥️,” she wrote.

Stars Who’ve Gotten Sober

“As a recovering heroin/fentanyl/cocaine/alcohol/etc addict, it’s part of my primary purpose to carry the message of recovery to others struggling with it,” Paris continued. “Not to promote it, but just to carry the message. If this isn’t something you relate to, it’s totally understandable why it would be confusing for you. And that’s totally okay.”

She added, “It’s just a different life experience. I’d be grateful for that! Just know that this is for other people that are either also in recovery, or haven’t found it yet. Much love!”

Paris first opened up about her perforated septum in a social media video that was reposted by a TikTok fan page on Sunday, November 9.

“I realized I never addressed this and it can sometimes be very noticeable,” she said in the video. “I have a really loud whistle because you can hear it when I breathe through my nose and that is because I have what is called a perforated septum.”

In the video, Paris shone a light up her nose to show the hole in the cavity and said that “it’s what you think it’s from.”

“Don’t do drugs, kids,” she explained. “Or do, I mean, everyone is going to have the experience they need to have with life. I’m not going to tell anyone what to do. I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.”

“I don’t want to get plastic surgery to fix it because I’m almost six years sober, and you have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly,” she said. “I don’t wanna f*** with that.”

“I’ve been living with this since I was about 20, and it’s a bitch when you’re in the [recording] studio … I can actually stick a spaghetti noodle [through the hole],” she added.

In January, Paris celebrated five years of sobriety in a moving Instagram post.

“Hi, I’m pk and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she wrote at the time. “Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface.”

“It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat,” she went on. “I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.”
