Below Deck couples haven’t had long lasting success — and Mediterranean‘s Gael Cameron and Nathan Gallagher aren’t the exception.
The couple, who met on season 9, got off to a rocky start as Gael navigated a breakup from an offscreen boyfriend. Nathan, meanwhile, was clear about his immediate attraction to Gael, which blossomed as they continued to work together on deck.
Bravo viewers were in for a surprise when Nathan and Gael’s growing connection caused them to nearly hook up off screen before production stopped them.
“[The cameras] weren’t on my mind,” Nathan exclusively told Us in July 2024. “I was 10 tequilas deep. I didn’t even know what a camera was exactly.”
‘Below Deck’ Franchise Couples That Got Together Outside of Their Seasons
As season 9 came to an end, it remained unclear whether Nathan and Gael’s romance would go the distance, but by the end of season 10, they were fully back together and expecting their first baby. Nathan and Gael welcomed their son in June 2025.
Us confirmed in August 2026 that Nathan had been arrested for an alleged domestic violence incident in December 2025 in Australia. Nathan broke his silence about the allegations that same month, revealing that he and Gael were no longer together.

After meeting on the Mustique, Nathan and Gael immediately developed a palpable chemistry that even their coworkers picked up on. Gael was initially resistant, since she already had a boyfriend at the time, but as that relationship started to deteriorate Nathan made his move. During a June episode of the show, the duo returned to their individual cabins after a crew night out where at first they went to bed. But Nathan ultimately texted Gael while their cabin mates were fast asleep.
“Where should we meet that has no cameras?” read a message from Nathan to Gael. “The starboard bow locker has no cameras. Let’s go there.”
Gael asked Nathan to tell her when he was there and if he got “caught.” She was then filmed leaving her cabin and heading to the front of the boat.
“What is right and what is wrong? Am I doing the right thing or the wrong thing?” she said in a confessional. “Maybe I like him a little tiny bit. Maybe I just want to hang out with him a little bit. I’m not harming anyone.”

Gael’s coworker Aesha came to her defense when it came to her connection with Nathan.
“It is what it is. That’s what they felt like doing at the time. The one thing that I will say in Gail’s defense because I know that she probably will get a lot of heat online of like, ‘Well, it didn’t take you very long,” Aesha Scott exclusively told Us while weighing in on the season 9 drama. “As someone who was her roommate and witnessed her relationship with her current boyfriend — when she came on [the boat], that relationship was not in a great stable situation.”
Aesha hinted that viewers didn’t see the whole story when it came to Gael’s offscreen relationship.
“Some of the messages that he would send her and the way that he would speak to her wasn’t very nice,” the chief stew noted. “And I think that whole thing was very insecure to start with and they’d only been together a few months.”

“With Gael, it just happened insanely fast. We connected and we grew a very, very strong bond. As time went on, we were just going with the flow,” Nathan explained to Us. “I was going with the flow. I didn’t want to put too much pressure on her. I didn’t want to set us up to hook up in certain areas or certain times. It was more of what was happening in the moment.”

Once filming on season 9 wrapped, Nathan and Gael’s relationship status remained unknown. They seemed to still be going strong before fueling rumors of a brief split that ended after the pair rekindled their connection.
“I know a little late for the end of the year but 2024 was hardly a year to forget 🎉 So many amazing times to reflect on: Covered 4 continents, became a dive instructor, got my MOY 200gt, landed on on your teli – Below deck S9 and reunited with my other half just to name a few,” Gael wrote via Instagram. “But also so many challenges and lessons served [throughout] the joy. Coming off a bike in a head on collision, scooping to some of the hardest emotional lows and doing it alone are some of the parts you don’t see. But as I said, lessons … and there is nothing more valuable than an opportunity to grow.”
Gael continued: “So for that 2024, I thank you. For the friends, the opportunities, the highs, the lows and the lessons. 2025 I know your going it to flip me on my head and flying kick me with brand new challenges but I honestly can not wait ❤️🎉.”
Later that month, Gael confirmed that she was still with Nathan and they were expecting their first child.

Gael and Nathan’s son, Kayden, made his Below Deck Med debut during season 11 of the Bravo series. While Nathan worked on the yacht, Gael was solo parenting in a nearby rental, seeing her partner in between charters.
“Getting to introduce our little man to @captainsandrayawn and @aesha_jean was so special,” Gael wrote via Instagram after the episode aired. “They’ve both always been incredibly supportive and have meant a lot over the years. It was also wonderful meeting the rest of the crew and making new friends along the way! Moments like these are ones I’ll never forget 🤍.”

Us confirmed on August 19 that Nathan had been arrested in December 2025 in Australia and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally chok[ing] a person without consent and common assault.
The New South Wales Police said Nathan had been arrested on December 27, 2025, following an alleged incident that took place one day prior involving an unidentified 29-year-old woman in a Sydney-area apartment building. (Gael was 29 years old at the time of the alleged assault.)
Us confirmed that Nathan was also the subject of a corresponding Apprehended Violence Application that had been filed on behalf of Gael in New South Wales. (An AVO is a legal order requested from a court to protect a person from someone who makes them fear violence, intimidation, harassment or stalking that is widely used in Australia, per NSW Government’s official website.)

Nathan broke his silence about the allegations that same month, telling Rolling Stone on August 26, “I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes, and I will take responsibility for my own actions.”
He claimed he had “evidence” that will show a different side to the story, saying, “I have contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records, which I believe provide important context.”
Nathan subsequently confirmed that he and Gael were no longer together, adding, “There are also other matters surrounding the relationship that I have never discussed publicly, including circumstances surrounding the breakdown of our relationship, previous allegations she made about a former partner and financial matters relating to the purchase of an apartment in Sydney.”
He concluded, “I’m not looking for revenge, and not asking anyone to take my side. I simply want the opportunity for the other side to be heard and for the evidence to be considered.”
