Hayden Panettiere has canceled her California’s Creep I.E. Aftermath convention appearance for a mysterious last-minute issue.
“Roster Update: Hayden Panettiere has an emergency and will not be able to attend this weekend,” a social media statement shared via the event’s Instagram on Friday, July 10, read. “We are looking forward to her appearing at an upcoming show.”
Creep I.E. Con noted that they planned to announce a “new guest” within the hour of announcing the actress’ cancellation. Face/Off star Dominique Swain will now appear in Panettiere’s place.
The Creep I.E. Con event is held in Ontario, California, from Friday through Sunday, July 11.
Hayden Panettiere Gets ‘Brutally Honest’: Child Stardom, Crushing Loss, More
Panettiere, 36, has not publicly addressed her absence. The actress’ rep tells Us Weekly that Panettiere “cancelled her appearance due to a health matter concerning an elderly relative.”
Panettiere’s con cancellation comes months after she released her bombshell memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in May.
“It really started when I was 16 years old, [with] people creating stories that were false about me,” the Nashville alum exclusively revealed in her Us cover story at the time. “There have been a lot of preconceived ideas, and I’ve always tried to be open and honest. I felt like there was a big target on my back and all that mattered was what would make the biggest headlines and shock people the most.”
According to Panettiere, she was initially “terrified” to open up about her childhood, mental health and postpartum challenges, as well as past relationships.
Hayden Panettiere Reflects on Her ‘Needed’ 4-Year Acting Break
“I thought the whole thing was very scary. I talk about traumatic moments and things that people don’t even know about,” she admitted. “The abuse I went through at the hands of people that were supposed to be there to protect me. Admitting to all of the things that I did. I knew if I was going to do this, I wanted to be brutally, painfully honest.”
She continued at the time, “When I was honest about postpartum depression on Live With Kelly and Michael [in 2015], the repercussions were shocking. After that interview, I had no idea when I walked off that stage that I was going to get the call saying ‘Neutrogena wants to fire you. They’re not OK with this.’ And you’re going, ‘Wait a second, of all the things, how can they judge me about something that is so human and so real?’”
This Is Me eventually landed a spot on the coveted The New York Times bestseller list.
