Lacey Chabert Addresses Paris Is Always a Good Idea’s Shocking Wedding Twist

Hallmark’s Paris Is Always a Good Idea found a way to surprise book and romance fans alike with a shocking wedding twist.

The first three episodes hinted that Chelsea (Lacey Chabert) was reflecting on her love story while recording a voice message on what appeared to be her wedding day. The fact that she was speaking to Knightly (Scott Michael Foster) further teased that he was likely the groom on the big day.

However, the newest episode, which premiered on Thursday, August 13, revealed that Chelsea might not actually be preparing to walk down the aisle to Knightly. In fact, her voice message concluded with her seemingly hinting that things went awry for the fan-favorite couple.

There was also the fact that the wedding was taking place at a castle owned by Chelsea’s presumed-ex Marcos, which further confused viewers thinking they knew where the series was heading.

“Is she getting married? Who is it to? It doesn’t seem like it’s Knightly at this point,” Chabert, 43, exclusively told Us about what is still to come. “That was one of my favorite parts about the script that left me guessing — and I had read the book.”

Chabert is excited for the audience to go through “a little bit of a mystery.”

“Even though we had six episodes and it was so nice to have all of that extra time, it’s still only six episodes,” she teased. “It could have even been longer.”

Chabert continued: “So to wrap up everyone’s story line, I think it’s a really satisfying ending because it really does wrap up and the story lines come full circle in a way that I think our audience will love.”

Based on Jenn McKinlay‘s book of the same name, Paris Is Always a Good Idea follows nonprofit executive Chelsea, who goes to Paris with rival Knightly to secure a donation. Through a message from her late mother — and support from her family — Chelsea decides to revisit three past loves across Ireland, Paris and Spain.

“I can’t answer for the book fans, but I do think they will be happy with this adaptation,” Chabert said about how the limited series brought McKinlay’s novel to life.

Chabert hinted that there were “some changes that had to be made in the adaptation,” adding, “But I think it’s such a rich story. The characters that people fell in love with in the book are represented so well in this.”

The actress also broke down Knightly’s surprising decision to let Chelsea reconnect with her rich ex.

“The scene where Knightly sends Chelsea to go and visit Marcos, this was the very first scene we filmed of the series. It’s so complicated because at this point they have admitted to each other that they’re in love with each other and falling for each other,” Chabert explained. “My character finally lets her guard down and opens her heart. It was a complicated, very nuanced scene.”

Chabert loved the shakeup, saying, “She is the kind of woman that cannot leave a stone unturned. And I love that Knightly sees that and knows that she needs that, whether or not she even thinks she needs that. And I love that scene because it shows that he knows her almost even better than she knows herself. Their connection is so deep.”
