Meghan Markle Reveals Reason for Malala Yousafzai Meetup: ‘Tea for Two’

Meghan Markle went for tea with activist Malala Yousafzai — for a good reason.

“This International Day of the Girl, in partnership with Archewell Philanthropies, 100 percent of net proceeds from As Ever jams and teas will support Malala Fund and its vital work to ensure that every girl has access to free, safe, quality education,” Meghan, 45, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, October 11. “Tea for Two has never felt so good.”

Meghan and Malala, 29, were spotted dining at Claridge’s in London on Wednesday, October 7. While Meghan donned an all-white ensemble, Malala sported a beige blazer over a black blouse.

Also sharing the news via her As Ever newsletter on Sunday, the Duchess of Sussex confirmed profits from her famed fruit spread will benefit Malala’s eponymous organization to help fund girls’ education.

Her email noted, “Malala Fund’s mission is to ensure every girl’s right to 12 years of education, and creating a more equal, safer and healthier world by making sure all girls can go to and complete school.

Meghan, for her part, jointly runs her Archewell Philanthropies with husband Prince Harry, named in honor of their son. (Meghan and Harry, 42, share son Prince Archie, 7, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 5.)

Meghan’s meeting with Malala comes nearly two months after the duchess moved back to England following six years stateside in California. (Meghan and Harry originally left the U.K. in 2020 after stepping down from their duties as senior working royals.)

“Look, the last few weeks have been … eventful,” Harry told Hello! magazine in September, addressing his brood’s return to his native country.

While neither Harry nor Meghan have revealed what led to their cross-continental move, they are not expected to resume any regal duties.

“The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity,” Harry’s father, King Charles III, wrote in a letter sent to the Sussexes’ team last month. “In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”

The monarch continued at the time, “It is well known that, in January 2020, the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family. This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”

Harry and Meghan’s California move ultimately sparked an estrangement with Charles, 77, which they have since been working through.
